Its Government Responsibility to Build and Upgrade Tamil Schools

Only by receiving 50 million from government, MIC thanked and praised that it’s a fair government that cares for all. Human Resources Minister Dr S Subramaniam release this statement after Deputy Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak approved the MIC’s request for the sum. I’m sure Malaysian Indian not satisfied with what they have received yesterday. Read here.

For me the sum of money is just a one step in upgrading the Tamil schools, there are a lot to be done. Tamil schools must be built in the town areas which most of the Malaysian Indian are migrating from estates nowaday. Why not government carried out new plan to restore the Tamil schools that had been destroyed so far? Despite upgrading the existing schools, the government must start constructing new schools. The major towns in Malaysia for example, Johor Bahru and Kuala Lumpur still required sufficient schools.

We are not owning huge numbers of schools compare to the national schools or Chinese schools, but with only 523 schools around, our schools still struggling with lots of problems. Instead of having access to a large field, a school hall, science laboratories and a computer laboratory, the pupils of Tamil schools have to manage with the bare necessities. Some of the Tamil schools have no field, no laboratory or library, staff room for teachers or even proper toilets, no canteen, no proper roofing, and sometimes, no classrooms even. The amenities provided saddening us terribly.

Some concerned Samaritan voiced out the problems faced Tamil schools currently, constantly forcing government to address this issue immediately. Although there are initiatives by government, but it’s not enough to satisfy Malaysian Indian who has been marginalised for more than 50 years.

Vanakkam brother vasan,

I received a similar question from a concern citizen on this matter. I hope my reply to him answers your dilemma as well.

P/s: this is my personal view as a member of the community.

Vanakkam brother selvem,

you say, "Lets not get overjoyed by PROMISES too soon"... Agreed brother. I believe its very normal for MIC to get 'overjoyed' when their demands being answered by the government.

I take it as a more transparent walk. Something that we can (should) follow up. A visible walk that shows WHAT are we really getting from the government.

Looking in to the situation of our tamil schools ( ref : http://.schoolstamil.blogspot.com) , I hope that the RM50mil is just a start. So.. now, we know where they are heading towards or at least responding to the needs.

For your question on whats the REAL allocation promised for tamil schools?

As stated and agreed in budget 2009 , A sum of RM 50 million is approved for tamils schools for 2009.

Is it enough?

According to MIC's information chief Datuk M. Saravanan, if the Government would provide the same amount for the next five years, then the woes of Tamil schools could be solved by 2013.

Kindly refer to http://.schoolstamil.blogspot.com for details on the progress and allocations for tamil schools.

Thank you.
